Stanford Industrial Affiliates Review Project

Main content start

The Stanford Industrial Affiliates Review Project (SIARP) committee, formed by the Vice Provost and Dean of Research, David Studdert, and the Dean of the School of Engineering, Jennifer Widom, has completed its comprehensive review of Stanford’s Industrial Affiliates Programs (IAPs).

The SIARP’s assessment focused on 52 IAPs housed throughout the University, with the goal of reviewing their alignment with policies and identifying any opportunities for improvements in their governance and operations. The SIARP committee was co-chaired by Bruce Clemens, professor emeritus in the School of Engineering, and Maureen McNichols, the Marriner S. Eccles Professor of Accounting and Public and Private Management at the Graduate School of Business and built upon an earlier review on IAPs housed in the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

The Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research, in partnership with the relevant school deans, are proceeding with a number of reforms in response to the committee’s findings and recommendations. These reforms include improvements to the clarity and practicality of Stanford’s IAP policy, strengthening programs’ alignment with the policy, and generally streamlining IAP operations and processes.
